Sorry if this has been asked (and answered) before, but I couldn't find it.
The pics in my album are gigantic! lol Is there any way I can resize them?
If they can't be resized, how do I make them smaller when I upload them?
TIA,
Esther W-B

I am trying to figure that out on the back end of the forum, but there are so many numbers to tinker with back there. so.. . this little program listed in the forum. is standalone and you can easily switch the width to 400.

You don't have to open the file you can just drag and drop it into the window and set the width you want and hit resize. It will create a new file with that width and name it resized_originalfilename.jpg.
hope that helps.

If you resize it, do you lose the original size? And is this something to use before you load a pic into the gallery? Sorry to be so dumb. :o

I've used this program from Chris' recommendation before, so I'll try to help you! They're not dumb questions. You'll resize the photo before you load it to the album. You don't lose the original file. It creates a new file name with the word "resized" at the beginning. You'll load this new resized file to the album.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Margaret. I use this program all the time now because I don't have to open up a big program and take time.

Let me add to this...If you use any program, name the photo the SAME and then SAVE IT, you will loose your original. But it would have to be exactly the same name (blahblah.jpeg). ;)

I downloaded it, and when I went to unzip, my virus protection detected a virus. Guess I won't be using it.

wow I have no problems. I will look at mine to see if I have the original zip at home. Sometimes web crawlers look for download zips to attach to when downloaded. Maybe I got it before it was infected.

Thanks for everyone's help. I think I'll wait for Chris to finish tinkering with the back end before I try anything so I don't mess things up.

You could always use TinyPic to do it - when you upload your photo you can tell it in the drop box to resize it!!

Under 400 wide always helps. :-) Sorry this is such a pain Esther. I originally set it up so it would upload even if larger so that it wouldn't block folks from uploading because of size. I need to see if I can get it to refigure.
Enjoy!

No problem Chris. I just don't yet understand about images and sizes and that kind of stuff so I'm interested in learning (thanks for your patience). I crop my photos in PSE and do a 'Save for Web' so always thought that was all I needed to do. Should have known it couldn't be that easy, lol.

Wow if you are doing a save for web... here is some info...
You don't need all of that.
Screen resolution is 72 to 96 if you are doing a save for web set your resolution for in the 96 dpi range and your pixel width as 400.
make sure to save your picture with a b or w so you know that is your webversion and can use it in the meatime. I dont have pse, but if you can set those specifics they should fit. what is probably happening is you take a picture and the picture is at 150 or above and then sometime when I open my pictures they are 24000 pixels wide.
If you just save those changes when do you a save for web and make sure to add something to the file name so it doesnt save over your original you will be so good. !
I can look for a save for web video for PSE and see if I can explain the steps better.
Woohoo! That will be an easy fix Esther if you are doing it already.
Enjoy!
