Hello every one,

This is my first hosting of the weekly challenge here at VDBC, and what a wonderful week to have. Since this challenge will be the week leading up to and ending on the day before Thanksgiving. You have until midnight Wed 25th to enter, Winner’s will be by drawn on Thursday 26th. This is my challenge for you.

This is a 3 part Challenge. With 2 winners! How awesome is that?
So read all 3 parts first. Lets hear your stories, and get started on those Thanksgiving layouts so all you have to do is add a picture after Thanksgiving.

Part 1: You are to post in this thread, “ What your favorite Thanksgiving memories are”. Doesn’t matter if it was when you were a child, an adult, funny or memorable or even the worst you ever had. We all would love to hear your stories.

I will do a Random Drawing from all the entries that post a story, for your choice of “ONE” of two of my favorite Thanksgiving files (below) I’m offering to the winner (1 Winner)

Part 2: If you post your “ Favorite Thanksgiving Memories” from part one AND you also post a thanksgiving layout or Card (for us none scrappers) in the SAME post as your story. Using a Thanksgiving or Fall Cutter file from any file designer in the VDBC store.

I will do a Random Drawing from those that qualify,( story and picture in same post) And the winner of part 2 will win both of my Favorite Thanksgiving files I’m offering (below). (1 Winner)

Part 3: Bonus: If you do both part 1 and 2 (in the same post) and you use one of my Fall or Thanksgiving files in your card or layout, You will win a bonus file (your choice) of my files in store.

(Exception to this. If you use one of the files I’m offering to the winner, you can choose another file of your choice of my files to replace the one used.) You will win total of 3 files.

Thank you, for playing

Sharon

Thanksgiving Memories for me are the first time I went with my husband, then boyfriend, to his families dinner. I thought wow I found a family similar to mine with a long table and anyone who needs a place to go was invited.

Made me feel awesome!

Enjoy!

That is really cool Chris, so you were the sray who found a home :)

Thanksgiving memories for me are few. One year I was in the middle of a move (gotta love the military) and had to go out to dinner, ended up being a great meal. One year my, then husband and I were traveling from GA to MD and by the time we arrived everybody had already ate dinner and the leftovers were on the counter. Last year was the best though, it was my family and two of my sisters families. It was sooo peaceful and very enjoyable. I brined the turkey and it came out so juicy and tender.

I think back to when my 38 year old son was 5 and I had made my mom's cranberry jello salad. He loved it and ate quite a bit (for a 5 year old)...then he and his Dad were watching the original King Kong on tv (way before VCR and DVD and Dish LOL) And this little guy threw up, blaming the cranberry salad to this day...but we think he was just scared of King Kong! LOL

My biggest memory is if we don;t attend Thanksgiving, Grandma won't get you a Christmas gift. lol This was big for us little kids.;) But if you were in the Hospital she gave you a pass.

One exception was the year my dad won tickets the the Cleveland Browns game. He took his brother and we seen them on TV.:D They looked like they had a blast.

Now as an adult we don't get the nap or game part. To many Thanksgivings to go to.

Chris, Your husband isn't the only one that has this peeve. A friend has a daughter's BD before Christmas and a son's after. Always buys tons of gifts when Christmas shopping but uses some as BD gifts, wrapped in BD paper.

Oh! All these are great. I love hearing how other people celebrate, It's not always so wonderful, And some are truly funny.

For us, We dont have many happy memories of holidays with family, So years ago we just started celebrating by ourselves with our 2 kids, and they like it like that.

This year, for thanksgiving, it will be Me and DH, DD and future SIL. My son will come for dinner, and Hopefully bring his room mate, We raised him for 5 years so he is like my own child.

Looking forward to spending the day with them.

Now, remember, every one that post a story, is entered to win one file, if you want to win 2 or 3 files. you have read part 2 & 3. I wont take the names till its at the end. You have till midnight WED the 25th.

If you need to add your picture of your card or layout, I believe you can go back and hit edit at the bottom, and click the advanced button to ad the picture, click the paper clip to attach. Let me know if you need help. I can help you with that.

Thanks for playing,
Sharon

With us being military we could not always be near family so we started to have and make our own family traditions and one that the girls always loved was we would make the dinner eat it and then find a movie to go to.

now they are older they still look forward to that and it is all about family and being together for us even if it is just our immediate family or extended family at times we have friends over whose husbands are deployed too just makes it really nice and fun for us

My Thanksgiving memories always center on inviting people who are otherwise alone. As a child our house was always filled with family and single men who had no where else to go. My mom always had a BIG turkey with all the trimmings. After dinner we cleaned up the kitchen/dining room and then out came the games. We all played games (even the men) all afternoon and evening only stopping to fix ourselves leftovers for supper. Living in a small town with only one channel wasn't conducive for football watching.

Every year we spend Thanksgiving with either my inlaws or occasionally my family (usually it is with the inlaws -- because we used to spend Christmas with my family when we were first married and until it became so hard to pack everything after children #3,4,&5 and moving away from my family -- and so it has been difficult to change that tradition so we try and get to my family's sometime before Christmas to have a little Christmas). We will usually eat dinner on Thursday and then on Saturday we go and cut down our christmas tree with the extended family and let the kids go sledding before we head home on Sunday.:)

So wonderful memories every one is sharing.

Years ago, we used to go to the movies after Thanksgiving dinner. And just yesterday my Daughter asked if we could go this year. I guess she remembers it from when she was little. So may have to start that again, I think there is a new Christmas movie out as well.

One of my fondest memories was when my youngest daughter was around 6 yrs old and my dad gave her the turkey drumstick and it was almost as big as she was. She took a big bite and the meat slid right off the bone into her little lap. We have that on video and it is priceless. This was at my mom's and she always had such an awesome dinner for us. I sure miss it. No one can cook like mom. :)

This is so cute! I bet its like watching one of the funniest home videos. Hold on to that!

Thanks for sharing.

Hm, No one has a layout or card to post with any of the designers fall or thanksgiving files in store yet. Remember to edit your story post and go to advanced and click the paper clip to add your card or layout to your story post.

This makes it easier for me to see who did both. for the 2nd or possible 3rd bonus file.

I am thinking heavily about the holiday next weekend. My in-laws are celebrating on Thurs. and my family is celebrating on Fri. I am looking forward to both. We are headed up to put up all my MIL's decorations for her Friday morning. So it will be a long weekend. However, we have so much family coming in. There should be almost 34 at one table and 33 at the other.

Because we live in Arizona it will be high 70s to mid 80s. My family always eats dinner at about 530 to 6 pm and we eat outside. The sun has gone down. It is slightly chilly, but my Aunt has those huge heaters for on her porch and it makes everyone sit close together. It is very cozy. My Aunt has started using the holiday cards I made where you have after dinner duties. Everyone has so much fun trading them and even some have shown up with cash to get out of their luck of the draw after dinner Chore.

I am really looking forward to the shenigans and the fun. I hope my MIL has a good time. She is so worried we are all doing so much because she can't keep up this year. I told her not to worry. She is, but I hope we can do enough to keep her nerves calm.

Well that is my rambling hope you are having a great Sunday. I am printing out 26 march calendars right now for the planner swap. YIKES. haha.

Enjoy!

My fondest Thanksgiving memory was when I was in high school. At the time my dad worked in a small town about a 45 minute drive from our home where they had a company owned lodge. We had my mom's sister and her family and my grandparents come and we all stayed at this lodge for the weekend. Everyone had their own bed and plenty of room. There was a ping pong table, so we had tournaments. It was definitely a Thanksgiving I'll never forget.

How is everyone's day before Thanksgiving. Are you ready for tomorrow. I'm not. Need to run to the store for a couple things we forgot.

Did any one make it to any sales today, I did, Jill C. and I went to one scrapbook store thats about 30 min drive from my house, We were there in line at the front door by 6:45am, After leaving there we went to another store, on the other side the bay, And got some great deals, all Bazzill was 75% off, so got it for .17 a sheet, so we stocked up. Man, Im tired, I dont usually go to bed till 4am, and up at noon, today, that's what time I was getting home, lol. I think its time for a nap.

Just wanted to remind every one, this weeks challenge ends at midnight tonight, so if you plan to play along, make sure you get it in before midnight, I will be picking winners tomorrow.

Thanks Every one for playing, Have a Happy and safe Thanksgiving.

I was hoping to do a project, but with getting called in extra to work, didn't happen! But my fav memories of the holidays was growing up in MN, my Mom's siblings always gathered for the holidays, we lived about 70 miles away from the "cities" where everyone else lived, so we were the ones who drove.Even thoguh a few times it looked like we couldn't go because of bad weather, we always seemed to get there, even if we had to drive really slow. All my aunts, uncles, cousins would gather at someone's house, the kids would have a wild time playing in the snow if there was any or playing football, kick ball--whatever we could--the "adults" sat at a special table and all the "kids"--didn't matter if some were in college etc--together and it was a pretty exciting dinner event. Everyone brought "something" for the dinner so there was tons of food, tons of fun and family time.

I was also hoping to do a project, but it didn't happen.
One of our traditions when I was a kid was to tear bread and crumble cornbread for the stuffing/dressing, helping my mom, while watching Macy's parade on TV. It didn't matter whether I was home (Indiana) or visiting family (most of them were in Oklahoma)- I helped get ready.

Many of my other memories involve either family or food- no surprises there! I especially remember my grandmother making pecan pie and Chex party mix each year, in addition to the regular Thanksgiving meal. Now that I have a family of my own, it's especially impressive to me that my parents made the long drive so many years so we could be with the extended family.

This year, we're having a family time, without guests. I hope my kids will join me in cooking, and that I will welcome them into the kitchen even if it slows down my prep time. I am loving having them home together.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
